09 Feb The Best Disposable Coffee Cups in Ireland
A cup is a cup, we think, until you need to source them for your business, that is! There are several options on the market, and you will need to decide which is the best fit for your needs, and if you will need to add some accessories to your shopping list. The good thing about your disposable cups is that they are one of the very few things you buy that will never go out of date, so once you find a product that serves (😊) you well, you can order as much as you like, so you don’t have to keep restocking too often.
What are your options?
There are four main cup sizes available, and while you will need to stock some of each size, you will need to determine which sizes your customers order most frequently and therefore which size you have higher need for. Many cafes will serve flat white coffees for instance, or ‘babyccinos’ in a 4oz cup, while the majority of tea and coffee orders will be for 8oz or 12oz cup sizes, and there will always be a need for the ‘supersize me’ 16oz disposable cups. Consider how your customers order their drinks from you, and be smart about the volumes of disposable cups you buy.
It is easy to fall into the trap of assuming that because disposable coffee cups are predominantly made of cardboard, that they are recyclable and therefore are environmentally friendly, but that is not necessarily the case. Cardboard, being a porous material, obviously needs to be treated to enable it to hold liquids for an extended amount of time. Most disposable coffee cups are actually lined with a fine film of plastic to enable them to function the way we need, and so they cannot be biodegradable. Brands such as Greenspirit have made huge developments in this field, and are now completely plastic free. Offering a fully biodegradable disposable coffee cup is often an important USP to customers.
Single, Double or Triple Walled – These cup options do what they say on the tin.
A single walled cup is a lightweight, bulk item that will do the job, but has no special features. They are perfect if you need to work within a tight budget.
A double walled cup is, as you would imagine, a sturdier product that is more pleasant for the end user. It provides better insulation for hot drinks and holds its shape better over time. (Think of spilling your drink when you try to take your coffee from the cup-holder in your car…the cup has lost its proper shape, the lid pops off, and there’s hot coffee everywhere!)
A triple walled cup is the higher end disposable cup. You can immediately feel the better quality as these cups are extremely sturdy and provide the best insulation. The often come in a ridged finish on the outside which allows your customer more comfort with better grip and less heat transfer.
Generic or Printed
This is very much a personal choice for your business, but should perhaps be one your first considerations. Generic disposable coffee cups are easy to source and inexpensive. However these are competitive times, and the take-out coffee market is an extremely crowded one, so having your coffee cups printed with your individual logo is one of the best and simplest marketing tools you have. Proud of your coffees and your barista skills? Let everyone know about it, and have your logo on every cup that leaves your premises!
What accessories are available?
Sometimes an afterthought, the accessories you equip your business with often turn out to be very important. Give some thought to the extra items you may need to stock, for customer convenience and to save cost in the long run.
We could be forgiven for assuming that this will automatically be supplied with the cups that you ordered, but they are usually supplied as a separate item, so take care to order your lids with your cups! They also come in different sizes, so if you are unsure, ask your supplier and they will help to ensure that you are ordering correctly.
It can feel like you’re just paying for bits of cardboard that people immediately discard, and often when we want to cut costs, coffee cup sleeves are considered surplus to requirements. This, however can be a false economy. Customers will often ask for a sleeve if they need to carry their drink and the cups already feels hot. (especially if they have been given a single wall cup!) If you don’t have a sleeve to offer, what is the alternative? A second cup. This solution becomes very expensive, as you literally will use twice the number of cups, needlessly. Now that’s discarding money!
Cup carrying trays in 2 cup and 4 cup options are a must have. We all love a customer ordering multiple drinks don’t we? Let’s make it easy for them! Drinks trays are a basic necessity for carry out drinks orders.
